| dc.description.abstract | El presente artículo destaca la relevancia de la educación a distancia mediante la
identificación de sus características, y haciendo referencia a las diferencias existentes
con la educación presencial. Del mismo modo, precisa los conceptos de
educación virtual y e-learning, y aborda el rol e importancia de las tecnologías de
la información y las comunicaciones (TIC) en esta modalidad educativa. Por otro
lado, el texto incide en reconocer los alcances de esta modalidad en el ámbito de
la educación superior.

This article stresses the relevance of the distance education in the current education
and society. In this sense, the text identifies the characteristics of the distance
education, and focuses on the difference between the distance and presence education.
In addition, the author introduces important concepts such as virtual
