Social Science and Policy Challenges : Democracy, values and capacities

Abstract

The report notes with some preoccupation that social scientific research, despite its marked internationalization over the past twenty years, is still to a significant extent dominated by the United States (and Western Europe) and the English language. It is a matter of fact that the superior means and capacities of scientific institutions and communities of the global North (although increasingly challenged by the ascendance of some key developing countries) tend to influence the development of social scientific theory and practice.
