| dc.description.abstract | Abstract in Portuguese Nesta tese, A mídia como dispositivo da governamentalidade neoliberal – os discursos sobre educação nas revistas Veja, Época e IstoÉ, as revistas são compreendidas como dispositivos da governamentalidade neoliberal porque em seus discursos sobre educação, a racionalidade e as práticas neoliberais, constituintes do projeto político predominante nas sociedades contemporâneas, têm materialidade no texto destas mídias, produzindo discursos e enunciados vinculados com essa perspectiva econômica, política, social e cultural. Este estudo aponta o poder e as relações de poder neoliberais como práticas capilares, insidiosas, que são incorporadas nos discursos destas mídias, sem conotação repressora ou autoritária, mas como verdades que circulam nos espaços públicos, interagindo produtivamente com seus leitores. A tese inscreve-se no campo analítico dos Estudos Culturais em Educação, especialmente na vertente voltada para as análises textuais, e utiliza-se de contribuições teóricas de Michel Foucault. Ao tomar como objeto de estudo a mídia como dispositivo produtivo para a governamentalidade neoliberal, a tese investiga e demonstra que as revistas operam como via de circulação e instrumento de articulação das relações de poder-saber neoliberais. Quando abordam a educação, as revistas não estão apenas publicando informações, anúncios, opiniões e comentários gerais sobre ela, as matérias das revistas compõem textos culturais que problematizam e prescrevem formas de fazer, de aprender e de ensinar, e, sobretudo, de ser e de compreender o mundo. Para isso, a tese utiliza, como corpus da pesquisa, textos que abordam a educação, publicados entre os anos 2003, 2004 e 2005, nas três maiores revistas brasileiras autodenominadas informativas: a Veja, Época e IstoÉ. A análise das revistas confirma o quanto a mídia, de uma maneira geral, faz proposições para as sociedades contemporâneas, sugerindo concepções e práticas favoráveis para a manutenção das políticas neoliberais. Nos textos das revistas as expectativas atribuídas à educação atendem às demandas de preparar os estudantes para a produtividade máxima no mercado de trabalho. Neles a educação é encarregada de cumprir com a sua parte para o “desenvolvimento”, o sucesso dos sujeitos e das sociedades contemporâneas. Produzir condutas e talentos em meio às adversidades do mundo globalizado é expectativa para escolas, professores e estudantes e em torno dela proliferam produtos de todos os tipos: cursos, escolas, material escolar e didático, tecnologias etc. As tendências, exigências e concepções consideradas válidas no mundo regido pela primazia do mercado e do consumo são incorporadas à educação. Nos textos analisados a ênfase em resultados, excelência, competência e a pretensa liberdade de escolhas operam para o governamento das racionalidades e práticas que têm como parâmetro o projeto político neoliberal, confirmando a vitalidade da educação como dispositivo de governamentalidade.

In this thesis, “Media as a device of the neo liberal governamentality - the discourses about education in the magazines Veja, Época and IstoÉ” , the magazines are understood as devices of the neo liberal governamentality because in their discourses on education, the texts reveal the rationality and the neo liberal practices - part of the predominant political project in the contemporary societies -, producing discourses and statements related to this economical, political, social and cultural perspective. This study points out the power and the neoliberal power relationships as diffuse and insidious practices which are incorporated in the discourses of these medias, without any oppressing or authoritarian connotation, but as truths that circulate in public spaces, interacting productively with the readers. The thesis is inserted in the analytic field of Cultural Studies in Education, especially in the studies of textual analyses and it uses the theoretical contributions of Michel Foucault. The object of study is the media as a productive device to the neo liberal governamentality, investigating and demonstrating that the magazines operate as a “road of circulation” and as an instrument of articulation of the “power-knowledge” neoliberal relationships. The magazines are not just publishing information, advertisiments, opinions and general comments on education. The magazines´ articles bring cultural texts that present a problem and determine ways of doing, learning and teaching, and, above all, of being and understanding the world. The thesis uses texts that approach education as a corpus of the research, published among the years 2003, 2004 and 2005 in the three most important Brazilian magazines: Veja, IstoÉ and Época. The analysis of the magazines confirms that the media, in a general way, makes assertions about the contemporary society, suggesting conceptions and practices which are favorable to the maintenance of the neo liberal politics. In the magazines´ texts the expectations attributed to education answer the demands of preparing students for maximum productivity in the job market. Education plays it role in the "development", the success of people and contemporary societies. Producing behaviours and talents in the adversities of a globalized world is an expectation for schools, teachers and students and all types of products proliferate around it: courses, schools, didactic texts, technologies etc. The tendencies, demands and conceptions considered valid in a world governed by the primacy of the market and consumption are incorporated to education. In the analyzed texts the emphasis in results, excellence, competence and the assumed freedom of choices govern the rationalities and the practices which have as a parameter the neo liberal political project, confirming the vitality of education as a governamentality device. | en_US |
